Like many women, my career didn’t follow a straight line.
I stepped away from work earlier in life to raise my family, and later returned determined to rebuild a career that mattered to me.
Over the next 24 years I did exactly that — finding purpose, independence and a real sense of fulfilment in work I valued deeply.
So when retirement began to appear on the horizon, I was surprised by my reaction. Instead of relief, I felt resistance. The idea of simply stepping back and fading quietly into the background didn’t feel right.
Around the same time, several life events arrived together — family responsibilities, losing a parent, leaving my role, and relocating home.
Suddenly I found myself facing a question I hadn’t expected:
Who am I now, without my work?
It took time — and quite a lot of reflection — to find my way through that.
What I eventually realised was something both simple and powerful: when women step away from long-held professional roles, the most significant shift is often not practical — it’s internal.
And yet, this is rarely spoken about openly.
Why Silver Reset Exists
The traditional idea of retirement was shaped for a very different era.
Today many women leave senior roles with decades of capability, experience and curiosity still very much alive. But the role that once structured their professional identity has changed — and that can leave a surprising sense of uncertainty.
Silver Reset grew from the belief that this stage deserves more thoughtful attention.
Before deciding what comes next — whether that’s work, lifestyle changes, contribution or something entirely new — many women first need space to understand who they are now, beyond the role they’ve held for so long.
Starting With Identity
That’s why I created the The Identity Conversation.
It’s a private 90-minute structured conversation designed to explore three simple questions:
• What has changed
• What has not
• What may now be emerging
The aim isn’t to produce a plan.
It’s simply to help articulate what may be shifting beneath the surface, so the next stage can be approached with greater clarity and confidence.
An Evolving Platform
Silver Reset is gradually evolving into a platform exploring how women redefine life beyond senior leadership.
Alongside identity clarity, the conversation will continue to open into wider themes — including contribution, wellbeing, financial confidence and personal lifestyle.
